Although the fifth-generation Avalon was released in 2018, Toyota has guaranteed that manufacture would finish in 2022. The carmaker revealed price and lineup revisions for the 2022 model year today.
The 2022 Toyota Avalon is $250 more costly than last year’s model, starting at $36,375 (without the $1,025 charge).
AWD versions of the full-size sedan are no longer available, and the aggressive TRD option has been withdrawn from the lineup. The addition of additional safety technologies as standard, including the enhanced Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package (dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing aid, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic warning, and more), as well as a back-seat reminder system, is excellent news for prospective customers.
The Avalon is offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains, just as last year. The 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 301 horsepower (224 kW / 305 PS) and torque of 267 lb-ft (362 Nm), and it’s paired to an eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission that transmits power to the front axle. The hybrid combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to provide a total of 215 horsepower (160 kW / 218 PS) and 44 miles per gallon combined.
Six trim options are available for the 2022 model year, including the XSE Nightshade Edition, which is distinguished by glossy black highlights, 19-inch wheels, and a rear diffuser. Inside, the XLE has SofTex upholstery and “engineered wood” trim, the Limited has perforated leather and real Yamaha wood, and the Touring has perforated SofTex / Ultrasuede and aluminum trim.
A premium 14-speaker JBL Audio system, a 10-inch Head-up display, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto / Amazon Alexa), a wireless charging pad, and a sunroof are all standard on the Limited and Touring (also standard on the Nightshade, optional in XLE, XLE hybrid). The Touring is the sportiest of the lot, featuring an electronic Adaptive Variable Suspension system and an additional driving mode (eco, normal, sport, sport+, custom).
